Hi,
It's nearly the end of term! I bet you're all excited for Christmas.
I've just spent the week in Bali which is in Indonesia. It was lovely! First we went to a town called Ubud which is famous for its artists and craftsmen. The people living there are brilliant at carving wood-they can carve it in to any kind of statue. Whilst in Ubud we hired some mopeds to get around the countryside. We went through lots of small villages and all the children came out to talk to us. The countryside was beautiful, my favourite sight was the rice terraces. Some of the villagers spend all day growing rice and the place where the rice is grown is called a terrace and looks amazing-I will show you a picture when I'm back. What colour do you think a rice terrace is? I thought it would be White like rice but it's green!
After Ubud we visited a town called Sanur which is on the coast. It had a very long beach which was FULL of local villagers. All the children go with their families after school and the sea was the busiest I have ever seen with hundreds of children swimming! At night we walked along the beach and we watched the locals dancing and singing. All the women wore brightly coloured saris and danced in one circle whilst all the men danced in another. They were singing about being happy in life. As we watched one of the ladies came and asked me to dance with them and I ended up in the middle of the circle trying to dance and twirl like them!
The next day we took a boat to a small island called Nusa Lembongan, it is a tiny island and very peaceful. The villagers harvest seaweed, we watched them wade out in to the sea and drag lots of seaweed in to a basket which they then carry on their head! Then they leave the seaweed out in the sun to dry out. The women on the island can carry huge things on their heads, it is very clever! One night we watched an incredible sunset which turned the sky pink, purple and turquoise. The sea reflected the sky so the water looked pink too!
Yesterday we flew to Singapore airport so we could get another flight to India. We had a few hours in the airport and it has been voted the best in the world. It had a cinema, swimming pool, butterfly garden, playstations, plasma t.v's and even nap rooms! It also had a huge slide to take you to another floor..but I was too old to go on it :( it looked fun!
We're now in India and we're going to explore Delhi tomorrow before heading to the Taj Mahal.
I'm home in a week so I will write to you all about India then. Enjoy your last days at school xx

Cambodia
Hi there!
I haven't been able to access the blog in Cambodia but we've just arrived in Singapore so now I can write to you all :)
During our first week in Cambodia we went to a place called Sihanoukville which had a lovely beach. All day there are children walking up and down the beach selling fruit, sunglasses and bracelets. They go to school from 7-11am and then they work on the beach until 5 followed by 2 more hours at school, what a busy day! They work because their families are very poor but I talked to lots of them and they were all very happy and friendly. Every night we ate at a BBQ on the beach-they BBQ chicken, beef, squid and prawns!
After that we went to the capital, Phnom Penh, where we stayed along the river. We went around lots of big markets selling everything you can imagine! On one of our days there we went quad biking which was really fun. We went through lots of little villages and all the children came running out to high five us :)
The man who owned the bikes gave us a huge coconut with a straw in so that we could drink the coconut milk.
We then took a bus to a place called Siem Reap. The bus was supposed to take 6 hours but it took 9 because we broke down! The driver had a really loud horn that he beeped every few minutes, it gave me a headache! When we finally arrived we got a tuk tuk to our hotel. A tuk tuk is a motorbike with a little carriage attached to the back for you to sit in. The same tuk tuk driver took us around the next day to see the famous temples called Angkor Wat. They are temple ruins from the 12th century, can you find a picture of them? They were so interesting, you had to climb lots of steps to explore them. One of the temples has trees growing all over it and the roots go all over the temple and it looks like it's eating the temple!
In the evening we climbed to the top of a hill to watch the sunset, it was beautiful-the sun was a glowing red ball.
Today we have explored Singapore, we've walked around for 10 hours! It is a super city with soooo many shopping malls. It is mega clean because it is against the law to drop litter or to eat on the trains, you get fined $5,000 if you do! This is the first place we've been to that has Christmas decorations, there are huge Christmas trees and loads of lights everywhere so I'm so excited about coming home for Christmas now. Tonight we went to see the new Twilight film, I loved it :)
I'll be home in 3 weeks and I'm looking forward to seeing you all.
I hear you have recorded a Christmas songs cd, how exciting! I can't wait to hear it. Good luck with your Christmas play practising.

Hanoi
I hope you all enjoyed half term and it wasn't too cold! I think I'm going to freeze when I get back because the temperature here dropped to about 20 degrees and I felt cold!! :s
We've just spent a week in the north of Vietnam, around Hanoi which is the capital. Hanoi was so busy, such a crazy city. There are 7 million motorbikes! Everytime you cross the road you have to dodge them all and they constantly beep their horns.
The city has an old quarter where the buildings look like French buildings, they are all super narrow and look funny-they're narrow because in the past you had to pay more tax money if your house was wide. There's also a huge lake in the middle of the city which is pretty. There are sooo many shops and they have streets for each item so there is a shoe street, camera street, bag street etc!
After a few days in Hanoi we went to Halong Bay. You sail around the area and it has huge limestone rocks all over, it looks magical! We slept on the boat for two nights and also went kayaking which was fun. We saw a floating village which was lots of houses floating in the middle of the bay-the children have to get a boat to school! Imagine that instead of walking and always being in a house surrounded by water.
We have now travelled to the centre of Vietnam and arrived in Hoi An today. It looks really really lovely so I think it will be a good few days.
Hope you all had fun on Halloween! Xx

North Thailand and Laos
Hi there,
It's Friday! I bet you're all excited for a week off school :)
We have been exploring the North of Thailand and a country called Laos which borders Thailand.
After getting through the floods in Sukhothai we travelled by bus to Chiang Mai in the North of Thailand. It was a really great town with lots of beautiful Buddhist temples, it also had the spiciest food that we have eaten - it made my mouth feel like it was on fire! Whilst we were there we spent a day at a Thai cooking school where they taught us how to make lots of delicious thai food. We made our own spring rolls, chicken fried rice, a thai green curry (my favourite) and a fried banana pudding in a sauce that tasted like toffee. After we had made each dish we went in to a room to eat them and we were so full up by the end of the day!
We also went walking to see some tribes who live in the hills around Chiang Mai, they speak their own language because most of them have never been outside their village. One of the tribes was the 'Karen tribe' who fled Burma and settled in Thailand. The women in the tribe wear brass rings around their necks all the time to make their neck look longer. They put the first ring on to girls when they are about 5 years old and then they add one every year. The rings were so heavy and must have been very uncomfortable, see if you can find a picture of the Karen tribe. They also wear very detailed clothing which is hand stiched and the full tribal outfit takes a whole year to make! One lady let me try on one of the headresses which are brightly coloured and covered in bells- it was so heavy on my head! They live very like the tribes who live in the rainforest that my class learnt about last year. They make all their own clothes and grow or hunt all their food, it was so interesting to learn about their life because it is so different to ours.
After Chiang Mai we took a four hour bus further north to get to Chiang Rai. Here we visited the 'white temple' which is completely different to all the others that are here. All the other temples are hundreds of years old but this one is new and completely white, it looked like a Disney castle! A Thai man has dedicated his life to building seven modern temples, so far only one is finished but we saw all the others being built. It will take a very long time to build them all because they are all extremely detailed on the outside and they have a painter who is hand painting images all over the inside walls. We saw him and he was sat on some scaffolding in the temple with a tiny paintbrush. He had completely filled two walls and two were still bare. You would have liked the pictures; we saw Spiderman, Batman, Neo, Aladdin and even Ben 10 hidden amongst the paintings!
We then wanted to get in to Laos which was a veeerry long journey, it took us two days! First we had to get a bus to Chiang Khong which is on the border for Laos. From here we took a slow boat all the way down the Mekong river until we reached Luang Prabang in Laos. We were on the boat for 5 hours the first day and then we stopped to sleep before another 8 hours on the boat the next day. It was a really interesting trip though because we saw lots of tiny villages that are built along the river. Why do you think lots of villages are built along the river? The houses in the villages are made of straw, they are round with a pointy roof. Lots of the villagers came down to the boat to sell things to us or to collect sacks of rice for the village, I loved all the village children who were very excited to see the boat!
When we eventually made it to Luang Prabang we were very happy - it is my favourite town so far. It is a french colony and so all the buildings are French in style and they lit everywhere with fairy lights at night. I also had my favourite day of our trip so far here. We went to an elephant sanctuary to meet the elephants, they were amazing. The elephants are very clever and are looked after by boys called Mahouts, the boys grow up with the elephants and they were like best friends! They play together all day and the boys taught us the commands to ride an elephant. The elephant will kneel down to let you hop on its back and then you have to grip on! You say 'how' to ask it to go forward, 'ya' to stop, 'toy' to reverse, 'khwa' to go right and 'sai' to go left. The elephants listened to the mahouts but they didn't really listen to me beause they didn't know me! The best part was taking them in to the river to play. As soon as they got in to the water the elephants put their heads under and stayed down for ages. Then they popped up and started squirting us all with water! We played with them for ages and had lots of fun, I really love elephants now!
After Luang Prabang we had to travel for 8 hours on a bus to Vang Vieng, it was a scary bus journey. Their roads are not like ours, they are like dirt tracks, so you bump around everywhere which wasn't nice as we were 1000 feet up in the mountains and it was a long drop down! It was all ok though and when we got to Vang Vieng we went tubing. You sit on a huge rubber ring and float down the Nam Song river, it was so beautiful as there were huge mountains all around us but you had to make sure you were concentrating to steer yourself around lots of rocks.
Today we caught a bus to the capital of Laos which is called Vientiane. After a few days here we will be flying to Vietnam. I have heard that some interent sites are banned there like they were in China so fingers crossed this blog isn't and I can tell you all about Vietnam.
Enjoy half term!! xx

Malaysia and Bangkok
Hi everyone!
I hope you all enjoyed the recent sunny days you had :)
I have been all over Malaysia now and absolutely loved it there. After Langkawi I flew to Penang which is Malysia's second largest city and famous for its very tasty food so I ate lots of nice things. It was the first British settlement in Malaysia so there were lots of English buildings around as well as a Chinatown and a Little India. There was also a beach but when we tried to walk along it a part of it in the middle was flooded, I started to walk through the water but began to sink so I quickly ran back! We stayed with a Malaysian family who were really nice and we found out that their children have to get up for school at 5.30 am! I bet none of you would like that and I wouldn't like to get up that early to teach you!
From Penang we flew to the East coast of Malaysia and then got a speedboat to the Perhentian islands. The boat was really really fast and bumpy, I kept getting splashed! The islands were incredibly beautiful with super white sand and the sea was so clear I could see all the fish swimming around. We went on a snorkelling trip which was really good. The boat took us to different places where we had to jump in with our flippers and snorkel on and then swim around with our heads under the water looking at the fish. It was amazing under the sea...like a different world. There were so many fish which were really bright colours and I saw lots which were like Nemo! At one point when we were in the boat the driver suddenly told us to jump off the boat because he had spotted...a turtle! It was huge and lots of little fish were following it, I loved seeing the turtle.
After a few days at one beach we moved to another one which was really small and only had 6 people staying on it so we felt like we had it all to ourselves! There were lots of hammocks strung along the beach and every night a man cooked for us all and we had our tea together. One day he went fishing and caught a HUGE Barracuda (see if you can find a picture of one) which he then cooked for us and on the other night we had a big BBQ on the beach. We went snorkelling again and saw another turtle, the man who lives on the beach told me that the turtle had buried her eggs under one of the chalets and he showed me where it was. The turtle was swimming around waiting for the eggs to hatch and enter the sea. Every night the man had to stay awake to protect the eggs because some naughty men were coming on boats to try and steal the turtle eggs because they are very valuable. Luckily they hatched really early one morning and they didn't manage to steal any. The female turtles are very clever and they create two nests, one of them is pretend to trick predators - see if you can find out more about it. Petani beach was my favourite place so far :)
I was sad to leave but I was excited too because we were going to Kuala Lumpur which is Malaysia's capital. It has the tallest twin towers in the world, they were SO big and I was a bit nervous about going to the top and then we found out we couldn't go up anyway because they are closed until Christmas :( I have been really missing cheese because they don't have it in Asia so when I found a place in Kuala Lumpur selling cheese I had a whole plate full!
After Kuala Lumpur we moved back in to Thailand. We went to the capital, Bangkok where we met up with one of our friends from England which was good. We visited the largest market in the world which has 8,000 stalls!! They sold absolutely everything there and it was all so cheap, you could buy t-shirts for 40p. We took a boat trip along the canals of Bangkok where lots of Thai families live. Their houses were built on stilts in the water and they use boats instead of cars to get around their neighbourhood. We saw two animals like crocodiles and our boat driver said he thought they were lucky. There were lots of lovely temples in Bangkok and one we went inside had a huge reclining buddha made of gold, I couldn't believe how big it was.
We are now in Sukhothai but we are struggling to do anything or go anywhere because Thailand has recently had a lot of rain and Sukhothai is flooded. We walked through the flood last night to get some food and it came halfway up to my knee! So cross your fingers and toes for me that it doesn't carry on raining!

Ko Tao and Langkawi
So the last time I wrote I had just arrived in Ko Tao. It was a lovely island in Thailand and was very relaxing. One day we took a taxi (which was a boat!) to a tiny island called Nang Yuan. We got absolutely soaked in the taxi boat because the waves were really big and the boat was only small!
No one lives on the island and it was just a strip of very white sand with the sea all around it. Some people were swinging over it on a zipwire! I have sent you a postcard with a picture of the beach on it.
After Ko Tao we wanted to get from the islands off the East of Thailand to an island off the west of Malaysia called Langkawi. It was a very long journey and it took two days to get there! We had to get 3 ferries, 2 buses and a taxi. There was a storm whilst we were on the first ferry and it was tipping from side to side :s but boats are designed to do that so it was ok, we felt dizzy when we got off though!
Then when we were travelling in the taxi one of the towns had flooded because there had been so much rain. Our car looked like it was floating and lots of children were swimming up the road next to us! We got through the flood and then after another ferry we arrived on Langkawi which is an island in Malaysia.
Langkawi was very beautiful and lots of it was covered in rainforest (the shooting stars will know about the rainforest). We went on a boat to look at some of the smaller islands around it - there are 99 altogether.
One of the islands has lots of eagles living around it and we watched them swoop down to the water to try to catch their food. As we were walking along one of the paths we suddenly spotted about 30 monkeys! They were all along the path playing together and one jumped up and took a ladies packet of crisps to eat!
There are all sorts of animals here, especially lots of geckos - see if you can find out about them. They make a funny clicking noise so you know they are there even if you can't see them. They come out at night and they like to sit near the lights.
Whilst we were on Langkawi I also went on a jet ski...I've never been on one before but it was lots of fun. You bounce up and down with the waves and can go really fast.
Mrs Thomas tells me that you have all had a fantastic start to the year which is brilliant, well done
Speak soon,
love Miss Thompson xx
P.s thanks for your comments Christopher, I'm glad you're passing on my news to the shooting stars and that you love your new class.

Thailand
We have been in Thailand for the past week. First we got a boat to an island called Koh Samui. We thought it was going to be hot but it was windy and wet just like England! We hired some bikes to tour around the island and found lots of lovely waterfalls where all the local children were jumping in the water at the bottom and having lots of fun. We ate lots of Thai food which is really nice-my favourite is Thai green curry :). One night we found 3 geckos in our room running around the walls! I was frightened at first but a man told me that they are really good to have as they catch all the Mosquitos.
We then took a boat to another island called Koh Phagnan which was amazing. We loved where we were staying and I especially liked the hammock we had and I sat there and read lots of books. The beach was the nicest one I've ever seen with really white sand and more hammocks! The sea was so warm it was like a big bath! We just spent lots of time on the beach and I drank lots of milkshakes :)
We are now on ANOTHER island called Ko Tao. It is smaller than the others. Whilst we are here we are going to go diving in the sea so I will let you know what that's like next time.
See if you can find Thailand on a globe and whether you can see the islands off the East coast-that's where I am. Miss you all. X

China
I couldn't get on my blog in China so I will fill you in about what we've done in the past month!
China is a super country and I really love it. There are lots of food markets where they sell spiders, snakes, beetles and scorpions on sticks to eat! I haven't been brave enough to try any though.
Our first stop was Beijing where we visited the forbidden city which is a huge series of palaces where all the emperors of China used to live. We also visited the great wall of China which was very special to see-it is a wall which goes along the border of China which was built to keep enemies out! We walked along it for about 2 hours and it was really steep in places, very tiring to walk along! On another day we went to the summer palace, where the emperors spent their holidays, and we went on a dragon boat around the lake which was lovely. We met Miss McIntyre's brother who lives in Beijing and we went go-karting with him. He went round really fast but I was a wimp and only went slowly!
We then got a bus to a place called Xian, you get a bed on the bus and can go to sleep! There we visited the terrocotta warriors which are statues of an army built to protect an emperor after he had died, they were really detailed and there were 7000 of them!
Then we got a very fast train to shanghai which is a very modern city with lots of cool buildings which light up at night. There is also a street of very old buildings which are interesting.
After Shanghai we visited Hangzhou which is a little CHinese town, there was a huge lake where we took another boat trip which was fab. It was soooo hot- 38degrees! We saw an aerobics class and a dance class outside in a park, they also have their gyms outside!
The final place we visited in China was called Tongli and was a little village on a set of canals. There were no cars and the people who live there get around on boats or bicycles. It was very peaceful after all the cities and we took a small boat around the canals.
Everybody stares at me because I have blonde hair and pale skin and lots of people come over and ask if they can have a photograph with me which is funny!
I miss you all and I hope you enjoy starting in your new classes. We have just arrived in Thailand so I will let you know soon what I get up to.
