Bali

Hi,

It's nearly the end of term! I bet you're all excited for Christmas.

I've just spent the week in Bali which is in Indonesia. It was lovely! First we went to a town called Ubud which is famous for its artists and craftsmen. The people living there are brilliant at carving wood-they can carve it in to any kind of statue. Whilst in Ubud we hired some mopeds to get around the countryside. We went through lots of small villages and all the children came out to talk to us. The countryside was beautiful, my favourite sight was the rice terraces. Some of the villagers spend all day growing rice and the place where the rice is grown is called a terrace and looks amazing-I will show you a picture when I'm back. What colour do you think a rice terrace is? I thought it would be White like rice but it's green!

After Ubud we visited a town called Sanur which is on the coast. It had a very long beach which was FULL of local villagers. All the children go with their families after school and the sea was the busiest I have ever seen with hundreds of children swimming! At night we walked along the beach and we watched the locals dancing and singing. All the women wore brightly coloured saris and danced in one circle whilst all the men danced in another. They were singing about being happy in life. As we watched one of the ladies came and asked me to dance with them and I ended up in the middle of the circle trying to dance and twirl like them!

The next day we took a boat to a small island called Nusa Lembongan, it is a tiny island and very peaceful. The villagers harvest seaweed, we watched them wade out in to the sea and drag lots of seaweed in to a basket which they then carry on their head! Then they leave the seaweed out in the sun to dry out. The women on the island can carry huge things on their heads, it is very clever! One night we watched an incredible sunset which turned the sky pink, purple and turquoise. The sea reflected the sky so the water looked pink too!

Yesterday we flew to Singapore airport so we could get another flight to India. We had a few hours in the airport and it has been voted the best in the world. It had a cinema, swimming pool, butterfly garden, playstations, plasma t.v's and even nap rooms! It also had a huge slide to take you to another floor..but I was too old to go on it :( it looked fun!

We're now in India and we're going to explore Delhi tomorrow before heading to the Taj Mahal.

I'm home in a week so I will write to you all about India then. Enjoy your last days at school xx
